domain name registration

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a domain name?
The internet works on numbers, IP Addresses (eg 87.127.204.4) and to save people having to remember them domain names were invented. It's simply a unique name which points to a IP address.

So what's an IP address?
An IP Address (internet protocol address) is like a postcode. It's a number used to identify a particular network and server which your website or mail resides on. Everything connected to the internet, even your boradband, has to have an IP address for it to work. It's so the internet knows where to send stuff.

If I register hundreds of domains, will I get a number 1 spot on Google?
No necessarily. Whilst some people may entice you to buy more domains to do just this it can in fact harm your Google ranking as they might see you as trying too hard! We recommend a few choice domains at most.

Someone else registered my company name, what can I do?
If they've registered it and parked it just to sell it to you for extortionate fees then there are some legal ways to get it back, particularly if it's your exact company name or a trademark of yours (whether registered or not). Contact us for help.
